The National Park of the Delta of Axios - Loudias - Aliakmonas, on the west coast of the Thermaic Gulf, is one of the most important wetland systems in Greece. It covers an area of 388,000 acres including agricultural cultivations and pastures, saline soils and marshy areas. Thanks to its geographical position and the variety of habitats, the area is an important habitat for many species of wildlife.

The Folklore Collection of Koufonisi includes utensils, agricultural tools, traditional costumes, furniture, embroidery, accessories and ornaments. The items were offered by residents who wanted to show and preserve the history, customs and traditions of their island.

The space is accessible to people with disabilities. Admission is free.

In Loutro location, on the edge of Agios Georgios village, you can see the ruins of Roman baths. Here you will also find the small church of St. Nicholas, near the old picturesque windmill. In the same area there is a traditional shipyard, too.

The chapel of Panagia at Kato Koufonisi was built in 1561and it is located very close to an older Byzantine church. In order to avoid problems with the Turks, but also to protect against pirates, the church had to be seen as little as possible, this is why during the Turkish domination the church was almost a basement. In 1970 the area around the church was enlarged, while in 1990 a semi-open air part, toilets and a bell tower were added.
 

The traditional shipyard is the first shipyard that was built on the island (1965). It is located in Loutro location in Chora. A visit to the shipyard will take you back in time as the maintenance of the fishing vessels is done in a traditional way.
